We source Gold Standard certified offsets, as endorsed by leading environmental organizations, as well as developing our own Canadian projects that are consistent with the most rigorous industry standards. All Offsetters funds are invested in renewable energy and energy efficiency projects that would not have taken place without our involvement.
We’ve created four portfolios comprising of sixteen projects from BC, Canada and around the globe. The 2010 Legacy Portfolio is a 50/50 blend of BC clean technology projects and international Gold Standard projects reflecting both the local and global spirit of the 2010 Winter Games. Our General Portfolio is made up of a mix of BC-based projects that we develop ourselves, and international Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) credits. The Gold Standard Portfolio is sourced from Gold Standard credits from around the world. The Gold Standard is an internationally accepted standard for offsets. Projects developed in Canada are not eligible for this designation (because Canada is a Kyoto signatory). And finally, our Paciic Carbon Trust portfolio is comprised entirely of BC projects dedicated to the Crown Corporation.
In 2009 we offset over 100,000 tonnes of CO2e and we are working towards offsetting 1,000,000 tonnes of CO2e by the end of 2011.
